From Proto-Italic *ajesno-, (see Proto-Italic *aeznos), from Proto-Indo-European *Γ‘yos. Cf. Sanskrit ΰ€…ΰ€―ΰ€Έΰ₯ (ayas, β€œmetal”), Oscan Ξ±ΞΉΞΆΞ½ΞΉΟ‰ (aizniō), and Latin aΔ“nus or Latin ahΔ“nus.
