Etymology

[edit]

Variously interpreted as ฮšฮฟฯฮบฯ…ฯฮฑแฟ–ฮฟฮน (Korkuraรฎoi), inhabitants of ฮšฯŒฯฮบฯ…ฯฮฑ (Kรณrkura), ฮšฮญฯฮบฯ…ฯฮฑ (Kรฉrkura, โ€œCorfuโ€), or as *ฮšฯฮฟฮบฯ…ฮปฮฑแฟ–ฮฟฮน (*Krokulaรฎoi), compared to ฮšฯฮฟฮบฯฮปฮตฮนฮฑ (Krokรบleia, โ€œisland near Ithacaโ€), although some consider these attempts vain.

Usage notes

[edit]
  • Though often thought to indicate a kind of military troop, they could also simply be tribal designations given their possession of flax.
  • Always followed by the ideogram ๐‚€ (VIR) in the An series.
