Nativisation of the Sino-Korean term 호도 (胡桃, hodo). Alternatively, perhaps a corruption of Sino-Korean 핵도 (核桃, haekdo), or a direct borrowing from colloquial Mandarin. Compare modern Mandarin 核桃 (hétao).
