[edit]First attested in the Beonyeok Bak Tongsa (飜譯朴通事 / 번역박통사), before 1517, as Middle Korean 텰릭. A borrowing from Middle Mongol ᠲ᠋ᠠ᠊ᠷ᠊ᠯ᠊ᠢ᠊᠊ᠢ᠊ᠡ᠋ (ta-r-l-i--i-e, “terlig”), see Mongolian тэрлэг (terleg).
