[edit]Etymology
[edit]First attested in the Seokbo sangjeol (釋譜詳節 / 석보상절), 1447, as Middle Korean 즈르ᇝ긿〮 (Yale: cùlùm-s-kílh).
지름 (jireum, substantive form of 지르다 (jireuda, “to take a shortcut”)) + ㅅ (-s-, genitive interfix; omitted from the spelling, but this causes the tense phonation of the following consonant) + 길 (gil, “path; way”).
