From Middle Korean 오ᄂᆞᆯ〮 (wònól), from 온〮 (Yale: wón, “which has come”, adnominal form of "to come") + Proto-Koreanic *hoL (“day”), etymologically "day that has come". Cognate with Korean 오늘 (oneul).
