[edit]애 (ae, “child”) + 동(童) (dong, “child”, Sino-Korean morpheme) + 제자(弟子) (jeja, “disciple”).

Usage notes
[edit]Preferred nowadays over older 선무당 (seonmudang, “novice shaman”) because the latter word came to take on demeaning connotations.
