[edit]First attested in the Seokbo sangjeol (釋譜詳節 / 석보상절), 1447, as Middle Korean ᄉᆈ〯졎〮 (Yale: syǒy-cyéc). Equivalent to 쇠 (soe-, “of a cow”) + 젖 (jeot, “milk”).
Compare 소젖 (sojeot).
