Korean
[edit]Etymology
[edit]사철 (sacheol, “four seasons”) + 나무 (namu, “tree”), presumably because it is an evergreen; compare to the English name.
Pronunciation
[edit]- (SK Standard/Seoul) IPA(key): [ˈsʰa̠(ː)t͡ɕʰʌ̹ɭɭa̠mu]
- Phonetic hangul: [사(ː)철라무]
- Though still prescribed in Standard Korean, most speakers in both Koreas no longer distinguish vowel length.
