[edit]First attested in the Worin seokbo (月印釋譜 / 월인석보), 1459, as Middle Korean 보로ᇝ〮ᄃᆞᆯ〮 (Yale: pwòlwóm-s-tól).
From 보름 (boreum, “fifteenth day of the lunar month”) + ㅅ (-s-, genitive interfix; omitted from the spelling, but this causes the tense phonation of the following consonant) + 달 (dal, “moon”).
