Etymology

[edit]

First attested in the Worin seokbo (月印釋譜 / 월인석보), 1459, as Middle Korean 보로ᇝ〮ᄃᆞᆯ〮 (Yale: pwòlwóm-s-tól).

From 보름 (boreum, fifteenth day of the lunar month) +‎ (-s-, genitive interfix; omitted from the spelling, but this causes the tense phonation of the following consonant) +‎ (dal, moon).
