[edit]First attested in the Yeogeo yuhae (譯語類解 / 역어유해), 1690, as Early Modern Korean ᄇᆡᆺ멀믜. Attested earlier as ᄇᆡ멀믜 (poymelmuy) in the Cheophae sineo (捷解新語 / 첩해신어), 1676.
Equivalent to modern 배 (bae, “boat”) + ㅅ (-s-, genitive marker) + 멀미 (meolmi, “nausea, queasiness”).
