First attested in the Worin seokbo (月印釋譜 / 월인석보), 1459, as Middle Korean 반ᄃᆞᆨᄒᆞ다 (Yale: pantok-hota), equivalent to modern 반듯 (bandeut) +‎ 하다 (-hada, to do, light verb deriving adjectives).
