[edit]First attested in the Seokbo sangjeol (釋譜詳節 / 석보상절), 1447, as Middle Korean 모〯ᄢᅴ〮. Ultimately from Middle Korean 몯〯 (mwǒt, “not”) + ᄡᅳ〮 (psú, “to use”) + 긔〮 (-kúy, adverbial suffix).
