머툰ᄂᆞᄅᆞ
Appearance
Middle Korean
[edit]Alternative forms
[edit]- 麻屯津 (the hanja form, the first two characters phonogramic and the third logogramic)
Etymology
[edit]The second element is ᄂᆞᄅᆞ (nòlò, “ford”), but the first element is unclear. It appears to be the realis adnominal form, with modulator present, of the verb or adjective *멑다 (meth-ta), but no such word is known in Middle Korean or any modern dialect. Alternatively, 머툰〮 (mèthún) may be a single morpheme, although it is still undecipherable.
Pronunciation
[edit]Proper noun
[edit]머툰〮ᄂᆞᄅᆞ (Mèthúnnòlò)
- a ford across the lower Taedong River near Pyongyang
