[edit]First attested in the Hunmong jahoe (訓蒙字會 / 훈몽자회), 1527, as Middle Korean 두디〮쥐〮 (Yale: twùtí-cúy), from Middle Korean 두디— (twuti-, “to rummage, to dig”) + 쥐 (cwuy, “mouse, rat”).
