Etymology

[edit]

Reduplication of the root 두근 (dugeun) (whence also 두근거리다 (dugeun'georida, “to pound, to palpitate”)), which is perhaps onomatopoeic; compare Japanese どきどき (dokidoki) with the same meaning. Compare 두그르르 (dugeureureu, “rolling, tumbling”).
