[edit]First attested in the Hyang'yakjipseongbang (鄕藥集成方 / 향약집성방), 1433 as Middle Korean 月乙板伊 (*tolphan.i). Further Middle Korean examples as Hangul include ᄃᆞᆯ판이 (tolphanGi), ᄃᆞᆯ파니 (tolphani) and ᄃᆞᆯ팡이 (tolphangi). Compare dialectal forms 달파니 (dalpani, Jeonnam/Pyeongan/Hwanghae), etc. and Jeju ᄃᆞᆯ뱅이 (dawlbaeng'i). [1]
