Etymology

[edit]

First attested in the Gugeupbang eonhae (救急方諺解 / 구급방언해), 1466, as Middle Korean 다〯목〮. The word's shape resembles that of a Sino-Korean word, especially with the second syllable matching 목〮 (mwók, , tree), but it is consistently rendered using Hangul in the Middle Korean corpus.
