[edit]Inherited from Old Javanese abhiṣeka (“consecration (as king), elevation (to a new position); consecration name”), from Sanskrit अभिषेक (abhiṣeka, “sprinkling, watering, wetting; anointing, inaugurating or consecrating by sprinkling water; coronation, inauguration, installation; etc.”); compare Pali abhiseka (“anointing, consecration, inauguration”).
