Inherited from Old Javanese kirik (pup), kirig (to shake oneself) (compare Javanese ꦏꦶꦫꦶꦒ꧀ (kirig, to shudder; to shake), Cebuano kirig (to convulse)), from Proto-Malayo-Polynesian *kirik (to tickle).
