Etymology
[edit]Compound of 鳴門 (naruto, “a noisy strait or narrows where the rushing of the tides causes noisy whirlpools”) + 巻き (maki, “winding; spiral”), for the way the spiral pattern in the kamaboko resembles a whirlpool.[1][2]
