Etymology
[edit]Compound of 討ち (uchi, “to attack, the 連用形 (ren'yōkei, “stem or continuative form”) of the verb 討つ (utsu)”) + 死に (shini, “to die, the 連用形 (ren'yōkei, “stem or continuative form”) of the verb 死ぬ (shinu)”). The shini changes to jini as an instance of rendaku (連濁).
