Usage notes
[edit]Although this term literally means “Portuguese currency”, it only refers to Macanese patacas. Portuguese escudos are referred to as 埃斯庫多 / 埃斯库多 (āisīkùduō) in Mandarin or 士姑度 (si6 gu1 dou6) in Cantonese instead, which are both directly borrowed from Portuguese.
