Etymology
[edit]Compound of 簫 (shō, “xiao”, a kind of Chinese flute) + の (no, possessive particle) + 笛 (fue, “flute”).[1]
Synonymous with just 簫 (shō) on its own.[1] However, given the rarity of this kanji in writing, and the large number of possible single-kanji terms pronounced as shō in Japanese, the longer version that specifies 笛 (“flute”) is used to clarify and disambiguate.
Pronunciation
[edit]Noun
[edit]簫の笛 • (shō no fue) ←せうのふえ (seunofue)?
