Etymology
[edit]The first syllable 祿/禄 (lù) is possibly a Kra-Dai substrate; compare Zhuang lueg (“mountain valley”). The substate word is more often written as 六 (liù) in toponyms of Guangdong and Guangxi.
The second syllable 步 (bù) may be the same word as the homophonous 埗 (bù, “pier”).
