Etymology
[edit]焦 (shō, “char”) + 眉 (bi, “eyebrow”). Literally, “burning eyebrows”. Originally a metaphor for urgency.
Compare Chinese 燃眉之急 (ránméizhījí, “extreme urgency”) and 焦急 (jiāojí, “anxious, worried”).
