Etymology
[edit]/hjoː kʷa/ → /hjoːka/
Likely derived from Middle Chinese elements 氷 (hyō, “ice”) + 菓 (ka, “candy”).
May also be a shortening of 氷菓子 (kōri-gashi), by reinterpretation of the kun reading of 氷 (kōri) to on-reading hyō.
