     この噴火口(ふんかこう)のとちゅうにおいて、横穴(よこあな)があって、それが外(そと)まで抜(ぬ)けて、日(ひ)の光(ひかり)がさしこんでいるのであろうと、誰(だれ)もが思(おも)った。

     Kono funkakō no tochū ni oite, yokoana ga atte, sore ga soto made nukete, hi no hikari ga sashikondeiru no de arō to, daremo ga omotta.

     Everyone thought that somewhere in this crater there would be a cave leading to the surface with sunlight shining through it.
