Etymology

Borrowed from Hokkien 椪柑 (phòng-kam).

The initial pon is from Poona (modern Pune), a city in western India.[1][2]

Compare Mandarin 椪柑 (pènggān) and Cantonese 椪柑 (pung3 gam1).
