When Fumihito had his own immediate family, his title became 秋篠宮 (Akishino no Miya) as he is not Akihito's heir apparent. Previously, he was known as 礼宮 (Aya no Miya), which was merely a 称号 (shōgō) used to address him, just like his elder brother Naruhito's 浩宮 (Hiro no Miya) and his younger sister Sayako's 紀宮 (Nori no Miya). Before he became Crown Prince, Fumihito was addressed as 秋篠宮殿下 (Akishino no Miya Denka, “His Imperial Highness the Prince Akishino”), and his wife Kiko as 秋篠宮妃殿下 (Akishino no Miya Hidenka, “Her Imperial Highness the Princess Akishino”). |
