Etymology

[edit]

Probably coined within Japanese of Middle Chinese-derived components, as a compound of (taku, home, residence) +‎ (roku, record, recording). Also analyzable as an irregular abbreviation of compound term 自宅録音 (jitaku rokuon, literally own-residence + recording-sound).[1]

Appears to be a recent coinage. Not included in many dictionaries.[2][3][4][5]
