Etymology
[edit]大 (dà) + 柴旦, the latter of which is from Tibetan ཚྭའི་འདམ (tshwa'i 'dam), from ཚྭ (tshwa, “salt”) + འི ('i, “possessive particle”) + འདམ ('dam, “marsh, swamp, morass”). Compare 柴達木/柴达木 (Cháidámù).
