Etymology
[edit]Japanese-style abbreviation of 保健体育 (hoken taiiku, “health and physical education”), taking the first characters from each constituent term.
This is provided as a single class for general education within the middle school and high school curricula in Japan. The subjects of 保健 (hoken, “health”) and 体育 (taiiku, “physical education”) may be split up into separate classes for professional or technical education high schools.
