(religion, Buddhism) In Vajrayana Buddhism, the Five Dhyani Buddhas, also known as the Five Wisdom Tathāgatas, the Five Great Buddhas and the Five Jinas (Sanskrit for "conqueror" or "victor"), are representations of the five qualities of the Buddha, and an important entity in Shingon Buddhism. These five are:
    1. 阿弥陀如来 (あみだにょらい, Amida Nyorai): west
    2. 阿閦如来 (あしゅくにょらい, Ashuku Nyorai): east
    3. 大日如来 (だいにちにょらい, Dainichi Nyorai): center
    4. 不空成就如来 (ふくじょうじゅにょらい, Fukūjōju Nyorai): north
    5. 宝生如来 (にょらい, Hōshō Nyorai): south
