ピアス
Appearance
Japanese
[edit]Etymology
[edit]From English piercing, misinterpreted as a gerund of pierce.
Pronunciation
[edit]Noun
[edit]- piercing (especially ear piercing)
- ピアスをあける
- piasu o akeru
- to have a piercing done
- (literally, “to open a piercing”)
- ピアスをあける
Usage notes
[edit]This specifically refers to earrings which loop through the earlobe and require a piercing in the ear, and is the general term for earrings. The more similar-sounding イヤリング (iyaringu) is less commonly used and refers more specifically to earrings which do not require a piercing in the ear, by clipping to the earlobe rather than looping through it.
