Etymology

From Philopon, a Japanese trademark for a methamphetamine formerly sold under that name, coined from Ancient Greek φιλόπονος (philóponos, “diligent, industrious”, literally “lover of work”). It is now used more generally to refer to any methamphetamine or any illegal stimulant drug.
