[edit]- disco, discotheque
- (Primarily mid-to-late 1980s and early 1990s) A high-end style of nightclub during the Japanese Bubble Economy where women, dressed as ボディコン (Bodikon women) danced on a raised platform known as the お立ち台 (Otachidai), waving feathered fans to Italo Disco, House, Techno and Eurobeat music. Replaced after 1994 by the ナイトクラブ (nightclub), where the venue is smaller, pop and trance music is played, and there is less emphasis on glamour.
