キネマ
Appearance
Japanese
[edit]Etymology
[edit]Either a shortening of Japanese キネマトグラフ (kinematogurafu) (itself from English kinematograph),[1] or from English kinema.[2]
Listed in one source as a shortening of English kinematograph directly, suggesting that the shortening happened simultaneously with the borrowing.[3]
First cited to a text from 1910 or 1911.[3]
Doublet of シネマ (shinema).
