Disputed. Derived from English kick + boxing. Sometimes said to be coined by Osamu Noguchi, founder of the World Kickboxing Association (WKBA), during the 1960s. English kick-boxing, usually with a space or a hyphen, is attested from the 1920s in reference to martial arts, however.
