Compound of () (yu, warm or hot water) + (たね) (tane, a seed; raw material; base), with voicing of the second morpheme due to rendaku (連濁).

Coined in 2001 by 神戸(こうべ)() (Kōbeya) as a brand name of a type of (しょく)パン (shokupan), employing its patented manufacturing process.[1]
