Etymology
[edit]From なろう (narō, “let's become”, volitional of なる (naru)) + 系 (-kei), named after 小説家になろう (Shōsetsu-ka ni Narō, “Let's Become Novelists”, a user-generated novel publishing website).

[edit]- (slang, derogatory) A vague, derogatory label applied to isekai (異世界) stories that have overdone, clichéd elements.
Usage notes
[edit]- Tropes include being hit by a truck (known as Truck-kun in the West) to be reincarnated as a hero in a pseudo-medieval European RPG-like setting (nicknamed ナーロッパ (Nāroppa)).
