Etymology
[edit]From the 連用形 (ren'yōkei, “stem or continuative form”) of the verb くじる (“to stick into something and open it up, such as a knot or a hole”)..
As a standalone noun, first cited to the 和名類聚抄 (Wamyō Ruijushō) of 934.[1]
