From Pre-Miyako -kaɿ, and possibly cognate with Early Middle Japanese -かり (itself from く (infinitive base) + あり). Cognate with Irabu Miyako -kal/-kar, Ikema Miyako -kai and Karimata Miyako -tsaz.
