Etymology

Attested in the Konkōkenshū in compounds, as あつため; of unknown origin. The Proto-Ryukyuan words for "meat" is *sisi and *mi, the former being attested with the meaning "meat" in Okinawan. Both words are also well attested throughout Ryukyuan.
