[edit]From ⲥⲱⲕ (sōk, “gather”, verb) + ϩⲟ (ho, “face”, noun) i.e. "gatherer of face" from Demotic sḳ-ḥr. The connection with ⲥϩⲁⲓ (shai) is rejected by Černý.
