[edit]From Demotic (wynn), a metathesized borrowing from the Imperial Aramaic gentilic plural 𐡉𐡅𐡍𐡉𐡍 (ywnyn /*yawnāyīn/, “Greeks”), ultimately derived from Ancient Greek Ἰᾱ́ϝων (Iā́wōn, “Ionian”). Compare Jewish Literary Aramaic יַוְנָאִין (yawnāʾīn, “Greeks”).
