Borrowed from Bactrian, from Proto-Iranian *ráwxšnaH (literally shining, radiant, brilliant),[1][2][3] from Proto-Indo-Iranian *ráwkšnaH, from Proto-Indo-European *lówksneh₂ (moon). Doublet of λῠ́χνος (lúkhnos, lamp).
