[edit]Etymology
[edit]Without a convincing etymology. Not related to Sanskrit आली (ālī, “stripe, line”). According to Beekes, clearly of Pre-Greek origin, in view of the nasalized suffix. The connection with αὖλαξ (aûlax, “furrow”) is certainly wrong.
