[edit]Possibly of Iranian origin, from Proto-Iranian *yaz- (“to sacrifice”), from *Hyájati, from Proto-Indo-Iranian *Hyáȷ́ati (“to sacrifice, worship”).[1] Or, related to *hižwáH (“language, tongue, people”).[2] More at Iazyges.
