[edit]The Mycenaean Greek cognate 𐀂𐀡𐀡𐀦𐀂 (i-po-po-qo-i, “ἱπποφορβοῖς”) points to Proto-Hellenic *ikkʷopʰorgʷós. Equivalent to ἵππος (híppos, “horse”) + *φορβός (*phorbós, “feeder”), the second component from φέρβω (phérbō, “to feed, nourish”) + -ός (-ós).
